Psychological Assessments
Clarity, Insight, and an Integrated Approach to Care
For some clients, questions about diagnosis, symptom patterns, or emotional and behavioral functioning cannot be fully understood through clinical interviews alone. In these situations, additional assessment can provide helpful clarity and direction.
At Pikes Peak Family Counseling, psychological assessment is part of our integrated approach to treatment and is not typically offered as a standalone service. While stand-alone psychological and neuropsychological evaluations are sometimes used for school placement, legal compliance, or disability determinations, our focus is on incorporating assessment into ongoing care. Assessment is used when additional information would help guide diagnostic clarification, therapy, medication management, or overall treatment planning. This allows our team to develop more individualized and well-informed recommendations.
Types of Assessments
All clients begin services with a comprehensive, interview-based clinical assessment conducted by a qualified provider. This process helps establish an initial understanding of the client’s concerns, history, strengths, and goals.
Clients may also complete standardized screening tools such as the PHQ-9, GAD-7, and other clinically relevant measures. These tools help clarify symptom severity and areas of need at the start of care.
When clinically appropriate, more focused psychological testing may be incorporated as part of treatment. These assessments are used to improve diagnostic clarity and help guide more targeted interventions and support.
An Integrated and Thoughtful Process
Assessment at PPFC is fully integrated into the treatment process. Results are considered alongside therapy, family input, functional patterns, and ongoing clinical observation rather than being viewed in isolation.
As part of our commitment to evidence-based, measurement-informed care, we may periodically re-administer select screening tools to monitor progress, evaluate treatment response, and guide adjustments to care over time.
This approach helps ensure that assessment findings translate into practical, meaningful recommendations that support progress in daily life.
Because assessments are part of a larger treatment plan, they are coordinated within ongoing care at Pikes Peak Family Counseling. Current clients who believe additional assessment may be helpful are encouraged to discuss this with their therapist to determine whether it would be an appropriate next step.
