Family Therapy
Improving Communication, Understanding, and Family Relationships
Families go through a lot together, especially as kids grow into teens and young adults. Changes in independence, school, friendships, college, and daily responsibilities can sometimes lead to miscommunication, tension, or feeling disconnected at home. Family therapy creates space to slow things down, talk through what has been happening, and work toward stronger, more respectful relationships.
Family therapy is not about blaming one person or deciding who is right or wrong. It focuses on how the family interacts as a whole, how communication happens, and how everyone can feel more heard and understood.
How Family Therapy Can Help
Family therapy can be helpful when families are experiencing:
Frequent arguments or ongoing tension
Communication that quickly turns into conflict
Parent and teen or young adult disagreements
Major family changes or transitions
Stress related to school, independence, or future planning
Feeling disconnected or out of sync as a family
Sessions focus on improving communication, understanding different perspectives, setting healthy boundaries, and working through conflict in a more productive way. Over time, families often feel more connected and better able to handle challenges together.
How Family Therapy Works at PPFC
At Pikes Peak Family Counseling, family therapy is offered as part of an existing client’s care. This means a child, teen, or young adult is already in individual therapy, and family sessions are added in when they would be helpful.
This approach allows therapy to stay focused and intentional, while also creating space for families to come together when it supports the client’s progress and the overall dynamic at home.
We offer family sessions in person in Colorado Springs and through telehealth when needed as an accommodation, making it easier to coordinate schedules and include family members when appropriate.
Please note that we do not offer reunification services or supervised visitations.
Moving Forward as a Family
Many families feel more at ease once they have a space to talk openly and work through challenges together. Family therapy can help reduce tension, improve communication, and create a stronger sense of connection at home.
If you are a parent, teen, or young adult already working with a therapist at Pikes Peak Family Counseling and feel that family sessions could be helpful, you can talk with your therapist or reach out to our team to learn more about adding family therapy.
